GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH THE OFFICE OF Financial ASSISTANCE & Planning
At Young Harris College, we review each family's financial situation to determine eligibility for need-based financial aid. This aid may be in the form of grants, loans and/or on-campus employment opportunities. For us to review your family's financial situation, you must complete the . Our school code is 001604.
All forms and supporting documentation (if requested) should be completed by May 1 each year to receive priority consideration for federal, state and institutional funds for the upcoming school year.
We also automatically consider all admitted freshmen for merit-based scholarships. All we need is your application, high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores.
Merit-based scholarships, such as YHC Academic Scholarships, the HOPE Scholarship and the Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant, can be added to Athletic or Fine Arts scholarships. In fact, more than 95 percent of YHC students receive some form of scholarship or grant.
Types of Aid

- Merit-Based Assistance (Scholarships): Young Harris College has an outstanding merit-based scholarship program that recognizes students for academic, athletic and fine arts abilities, to name a few.
- Need-Based Assistance: Need-based assistance, which includes grants, work-study and loans, is funded from federal, state and institutional sources. A student's eligibility for need-based assistance is determined by information submitted each year on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Loans: Loans are sources of funding that allow students to spread the cost of education over time. Loans must be paid back, even if the student does not complete his/her education.
Financial aid awards, excluding work-study, will typically be applied to your student account each semester, provided you have a complete financial aid file and your enrollment status is verified. Students who fail to enroll or attend classes are not eligible for financial aid.
Awards that require documentation will not be disbursed until all requirements for disbursement are met. Scholarships and grants from outside agencies are forwarded to the Business Office and listed as Outside Scholarships on your award letter. You are required to contact the financial aid office of any outside scholarship that will be paid to YHC on your behalf.
Federal Direct Loans and Parent PLUS Loans are disbursed as outlined in your guarantee statement by your guarantee agency once you complete all loan processes. If you wish to make changes or cancel any loan disbursement, or if you have any questions concerning disbursement of financial aid, please contact the Office of Financial Assistance & Planning.

Financial Aid Grievances
