Early Childhood Education

At Young Harris College, we’re educating the teachers of our community—and we take that responsibility seriously. In fact, many top-notch educators throughout the state are YHC alumni.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Education (Early Childhood Education) at YHC provides rigorous coursework, personal advisement, a versatile content-based education through our liberal arts curriculum, plus invaluable field and clinical experiences leading to public school certification in grades P–5. View the Teacher Preparation Program Handbook.

Following YHC’s own approach to education, our division teaches you to follow a learner-centered and hands-on approach in the classroom. YHC partners with 16 local public and charter schools in the region, so you’re placed in the appropriate setting for rewarding observation, practica and student-teaching experiences.

Our faculty are seasoned, having worked as early childhood educators or elementary administrators themselves. So you can learn from your professors’ real-world insight in classroom discussion—from successful learning activities to classroom management ideas.

All graduates leave with the knowledge and skills to become successful educators—in the classroom and the field. You can get ready to teach or further your education with secondary certifications and post-baccalaureate programs. Some alumni have also found their place in:

•    School administration
•    Child care/counseling
•    Textbook publishing
•    Nonprofit organizations
•    Education advocacy
