The authority to cancel all regularly scheduled classes or close the College rests with the President and the Vice President for Academic Affairs of the College.
Young Harris College places the highest priority on the safety and well-being of its students, faculty and staff. Everyone is encouraged to exercise extreme caution when traveling under hazardous conditions.
If circumstances require the cancellation of all classes or closing of campus, the College will use multiple communication tools, as available, to notify students, faculty and staff. These tools include:

- Young Harris College website (homepage)
- Young Harris College and feeds
- Atlanta-area television stations: ; ; ;
- YHC Email

If the President and Vice President for Academic Affairs close the College, the Vice President for Academic Affairs will notify all administrators who report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the President so that they may contact employees within their departments or divisions. Refer to Section 510 of the Young Harris College Employee Handbook for more information about Emergency Closings.

In case of inclement weather or other emergency, students may call (706) 379-5045 for a recorded list of cancelled classes. They should contact their teachers via email and meet with their professors immediately upon their return to campus. Faculty members will provide reasonable opportunities for students to complete the assignments or examinations missed as a result of absences caused by inclement weather or hazardous driving conditions.
